Is it really free?
Yes — 100% free, with no paid tier and no usage gate. There was once a planned Pro tier; it never launched and has been retired. Every tool is free for everyone.
Then how do you keep it running?
QuillPDF is built and run by an independent developer at Purple Directive. There are no ads, no trackers, and nothing is sold. If the tools saved you time, telling a colleague or sending feedback genuinely helps — donations may open up later, but nothing is expected.
Is my data safe?
Every tool — Merge, Split, Rotate, Watermark, Compress, Clean Metadata, Redact, Bates, PDF to Image, Image to PDF, and OCR — runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded (the OCR engine is bundled from our own origin, not a CDN). See /transparency and /privacy for specifics.
What file types are supported?
PDF for most tools. Image to PDF supports JPG and PNG. More formats as we validate demand.
What's the file size limit?
50 MB per file. Merge totals up to 200 MB combined. Same limits for everyone.
Are you HIPAA compliant?
No. QuillPDF is not covered by a BAA and should not be used for PHI today. If healthcare private-PDF tooling is something you'd find valuable, tell us — it's on the roadmap.
