Is it really free?
Yes — 100% free, with no paid tier and no usage gate. There was once a planned Pro tier; it never launched and has been retired. Every tool is free for everyone.
Then how do you keep it running?
QuillPDF is built and run by an independent developer at Purple Directive. There are no ads, no trackers, and nothing is sold. If the tools saved you time, an optional donation helps cover hosting — but you never have to.
Is my data safe?
Every tool — Edit, Merge, Split, Organize pages, Rotate, Crop, Page numbers, Header & footer, PDF to Word, Word to PDF, PDF to image, Image to PDF, OCR, Compress, Remove metadata, Flatten form, Redact, Password-protect, Remove password, Watermark, Bates numbering and Inspection package — runs entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded (the OCR and conversion engines are served from our own origin, not a CDN). See /transparency and /privacy for specifics.
What file types are supported?
PDF for most tools. Image to PDF takes JPG and PNG. Word to PDF takes .docx (save an older .doc as .docx first), and PDF to Word writes a .docx.
What's the file size limit?
200 MB per file for tools that only restructure the PDF (400 MB combined on Merge). Tools that render pages — Compress, Redact, OCR, PDF to Image, PDF to Word, Word to PDF — take up to 200 MB on a desktop with a warning above 50 MB, and 50 MB on a phone. These are browser-memory guardrails, not plan limits, and they are the same for everyone.
Are you HIPAA compliant?
No. QuillPDF is not covered by a BAA and should not be used for PHI today. If healthcare private-PDF tooling is something you'd find valuable, tell us — it's on the roadmap.
